TIPP #1: Comfort

TIPP #1 : by Pam Ryerse TIPPS/Radiant Health Imaging

As a woman, I value a comfortable experience during medical procedures. Let's face it, most clinical procedures are cold and insensitive to meeting the individual needs of those that visit. There is typically a one-size-fits all approach. I know, I spent over 20 years in the generic clinical setting. Add in that I was in the military where procedure outranks the best of intention, and you see why comfort is such a high priority for me.

Many of my patients are women using thermography for breast health risk assessment and related illnesses. All I can compare my business to is a mammography procedure and I know I don't feel comfortable during that process at all.

My desire is to create an atmosphere where the shyest person will walk away and say – that experience was the most discreet and thoughtful experience I have ever had in relationship to my breast health.

One way I deliver comfort to my patients is to use a sarong for their gown rather than a disposable paper gown. They are pretty, fun, and remind women of tropical get-aways and feeling sexy. Yes, this means I have to do laundry, but what would you rather wear? Some patients come out of the dressing room dancing the hula! That says comfortable.

I get sarongs from Turtle Island Imports. And yes they have a wholesale store! I purchase the half sizes for breast imaging and full sarongs for half/full body imaging. Even the men will wear them as a skirt like the handsome guys in Hawaii.

I also value sustainability and re-using gowns helps me adhere to my green business practice ideals. The best ideas usually honor more than one aspect of my values.

Patients and Potential Patients: Consider making a thermography appointment for yourself or a loved one today.

Fellow business owners: Consider adding sarongs to your protocol today.
